Review

Hip Hop fans have been steadly getting a healthy dose of monthly compiled mixes courtesy of Dj 2DAXHA
@The_Shandis HipHopSosha Radio Mahala Mix Vol. 3 is another needed step forward for lovers of the music genre. To tap into the vastly available vein of musical works who have already been released independently. Some are songs obviously previously stuck in radio station door knock and the computer hard-drive place. But still there is enough flavor and bump here to give your national radio station a serious run with some proper mixing and mastering needed here and there.

For now I will briefly try and tell you why clicking on HipHopSosha Radio Mahala Mix internet Link is the thing to do.

Right off the bat Dj@DAXHA sets it off Akalicious on full battle mode all the way to the end of the song in typical comic themed lyrics. A pause sets in and than Abdus finishes where the verbal spar was left off, really interesting juxtapose Mr Dj, even though these songs have been in circulation a little while ago. Champ soon maintains the rhyme bravado with smart wordplay and flow, since this is the part of the mix where the mood is high with live performance intensity joints and head nod live beats.

Seamlessly Mizzy is in the house with very charismatic presence and a catchy chorus, the beat is a bit monotonous though but he keeps it moving. Nkosinathi Thots follows with a very hard to ignore brief joint and a voice to match the catch.

This mix really starts on a high note and it is anthems style songs galore with bars to compliment all the way.

Still on the roll and “2thaxha” King-T show and proves while looking for any challenge to do the same. Bricka Iphanta is on that party tip with crisp handclaps to keep you in check.

SpaDaMcWize picks it up back to the banger territory, Wize pushes strong putting a big “W” in the air to them that don’t recognize spelling his name in the hook loud and clear. There after the mood changes slightly with great story telling from Ras Zweli slight reggae groove and a great composition definitely on of the more solid songs this one.

Too Gully stomps in to snatch their respect while Street Elements prove their worth with really smart and intricate wordplay backed by solid lyricism and play on the Zulu language.

Another step at changing the tempo from the earlier flood of bangers is Khashan an Eastern Cape native, who keeps the bounce in mid-tempo with effortless rhyming the boy is a natural at it. A great steady flow settles the dust a bit until Middlefinga alters the groove into a funky Jazz horn driven tune, this is a perfectly well chosen “throwback” moment for those who know their S.A Hip Hop.

In keeping with much needed history moment in this ever fast changing music genre Big Fkn Gun is thrown in there to pour salt to mental wounds because not knowing ones history is an injury to self really heads.

Ntsika Chwane LoMsuthu comes showcasing his unique lyricism in playful tone, his vocals hover over the beat a little muffling a contagious rhythm of the instrumental, we certainly hope for better mixing for next time.

Up next it’s J-sec with veterans Othello, this crew stays sharp as ever as they rip through a boom bap adrenaline fuel injected beat with easy. Some of the guys in this crew were part of the Durban’s humble Hip-Hop beginnings, do the knowledge.

GMS steps in with a Champ Remix, everyone came with their sharpest pens on this joint, also definitely one of the highlights for this compilation, real GrootMan Style. The beat has a mean bump too respect is due. Last but not least is Rez Proph telling a personal but easily relatable story with Hip-Hop in a way only an honest, smart and true b-boy can tell, you just have to play this till the end. PEACE!!!
